There were two hundred mares
belonging to the Government at Nome Lackee
Reserve. This stallion was purchased to
run with them. The price was low - It
is not uncommon here for stallions to
sell at a much higher price.

The chief of the Indians at
Knights Ferry having visited me at this
city to give information that his tribe was
abotu to be driven from their lands by
Squatters - I deemed it necessary to send
a Special Agent immediately to prevent
the depredation. The expense in this bill
was for that purpose - The object of the
trip was accomplished; and the result was
the Indians have remained quietly in possession
of their lands ever since.
