My dear Mrs Stanford
Just as I was starting
for Chicago, on Wednesday Eve, the
sad news of the death of Senator
Stanford was brought to me from
the car. I sent you a brief
message of sympathy. I got home
this morning and cannot do any
thing tho until I have more fully
expressed to you my profound upset
and sympathy. I think I know,
better than most, what you feel
and suffer. The breaking of the close
companionship of a life time, confuses the
heart and mind. Perhaps it is a
mercy that it cannot be realized at once
best to come slowly to the full realization
of our loss. I count it a good many
