Status: Complete

invitation as on former occasions and have
made arrangements to spend one week in
Monterey, as you will see by the inclosed letter
of their secretary.
In regard to the other note of the Native Song
of the Golden West asking your contribution to the
expenses of The Day, we had decided in committee
to raise the funds ourselves, and so we did, and
myself headed the subscription list. Now I do not
know why they asked your assistance, as we did
not authorize any one for it.
I see by your letter that the Governor and
yourself will try to come down to Monterey,
nothing than your presence will give greater
pleasure to the public and myself.
By this mail I send a copy of the Monterey
papers for you and Mrs Hughes, your sister, as she
wished to have a copy.
My kind regards to the Governor and you believe
me your humble servant
