To live by faith in the promises of God
proves the only stay & support of the
heart under affective providences.
(I had fainted unless I had believed to
see the goodness of the Lord in the
land of the living This is my comft
in my affliction for thy word hath
quickened me) In daily & lighter tryals
a man of mild & patient tempter may
hold up the head but when one deep
calleth unto another & the waves flow
over our head when nature yieldeth
& the heart fainteth then to stand fast
& he of good courage is the only property
of faith which is grounded
upon the rich mercy of God made
over to us in these precious promises. I cannot
deny but distrust many times wrings
from a Christian such voices as
these "were it any thing but this
