1861 William & Thomas gone to the wars.
December 16th 1861. My two Sons B. W. Porter and Thos. L. Porter left home for Camp Maury near Nashville William elected Captain & Thomas 1st lieutenant in a Cavalry Company of our Most respectable Neighbors, Fanna & her little daughter left also, to live with his father & mother until Thomas is discharged and comes home. May God with his infinate Wisdom ^severely punish those ^North & South who was instrimental in bringing on this dredful calamity upon our once beloved & prosperous Country ---- Nimrod Porter
[hand pointing] B. W. Porter was elected Major by acclimation Decr the 25th at Camp Maury in Col. Gants Regt - William returned home upon business Decr 26th 1861 at night
William returned to the Camps Decr 31st 1861 morning
Jany 4 1862 Recd a letter from William dated 3rd Inst from Camp Maury Jany 4 1862 Recd a letter from Thomas dated Jany 2d Inst. Cap Maury
Willam & Thomas returned home Monday night Jany 6th 1862
William sick with bad cold 6. 7. 8. 9. 10 & better 11
Thomas & Fanna came home Friday 10 from Witlows
Thomas had bad cold both him & Wm went to Town Sat 11 Jany
Thomas left for Camp Maury by the morning train 15th [Jany]
