Jany 1st. The last one of our black boys have left (yesterday) & still gone for fear of being carried off by the Confederate soldiers. I have become uneasy about them. they have got back the 8th Jany, the verry Wild occasionally dodging off & staying a day & night, & then returning

Jany 2d. Friday awful fihting until in the night which we lost a greate many thaught near 2000. This was apart of Brackenridges Command lead on by Genl Pillow Near Murphresborough

1863 Jany 4th. All our troops leaving Murphresborough getting off all our sick & wounded gone to Tulahoma, 40 miles, South & East, the Fedrals occupying Murphrysborough 5th Jany

Th. 8. left & went & stayed with Maryann from Thursday morning until Sunday night the 11th Jany

Mon. 12 Green George & Jim left for W. J. Porters to work on the Factory buildings Lawreneburg
News of awful fighting at Vicksburg faught for 5 days contradictory news with regard to the result (reported news of Scrimenging in eleven places)

Tues. 15 I went to Maryanns & came home Sat evening 17th Jany I
