The fighting on Wed 4th, the Southerners took from 1260 to 2000 prisoners Many killed & Wound on each side Some way from 400 to 500 of the Suthers were killed & a greate many wounded Sterling R Porter was killed with others cant tell yet how many of the enemy were killed & wounded yet, but thought to equal the number of our own perhaps more

Wed 11. [hand pointing] The Cannons Commenced firing this morning at Rutherfords Creek this morning 7 ½ oclock they are fighting across the Creek it being past fording from the verry heavy rains resently. Our Citizens & many others getting off to the South in every possible way
