May 1863 23 Duck Mule got his thigh broke last night

May 27 Jim & Monk went to work with my son Thomas Wed Morning 27th May.

May 28 [hand pointing] Reported hard fighting at Vicksburgh & the Fedrals loss of many prisoners. The signs are reported favourable to the Southerners.

May 29 A good rain which was much wanted fell on Friday 29 & Sat 30th May 1863

1863 June 1st Mon) William left home this morning for Lawrence County in company of J.W.B.Thomas & others. William got home Friday evening through rain

Mon 1st Jesse S Harriss stayed with me all night Monday night

Tues 2nd I dreamed I frightful dream on Tuesday night with regard to our poore distressed & wounded soldiers. No one at home with me & I not well. I dreamed it several times.

Th 4 Marten Nance stayed with me all night with us Thursday night the 4th.

Friday 5 [hand pointing] frightful news came this evening from Franklin Our troops badly cut up Armstrongs Brigade suffered awfully (fight yesterday) My dream of Tuesday night last demonstrated in part.
