[Thurs] 25 Genl Wheelers Brigade of Cavalry came to Spring Hill this 25 June A fight expected soon at Franklin & all the Wagon trains moved to South side of the river Awful fighting in & near Vicksburg & has been for two weeks past all the [hand pointing] Wagon trains across to the South Side of Dr.

Heavy fighting at Winchester Vir & the Yankeys routed about 20th Inst.

Friday 26 Thomas came eat his dinner & William went home with him after dinner

Sat 27 No news from Vicksburg since the last terrible battle

1863 Sat 27 I have been much anoyed with the Southern soldiers ever since they came back tot he South side of the river which was Thursday 25th Inst &c

Sun 28 Nothing from Vicksburg
[hand pointing] The Southern Waggons Commisery Stores all ordered off to Lynnsville & Giles County We have had hard work to keep them from taking every thing they can get there hands on horses mules & Cattle &c, &c

[hand pointing] Shelbyville evacuated by the Southern troops & the Fedrals have possession. The Fedrals advancing upon Tulahoma.
