Mon 6 [hand pointing] News of there fighting in Pennsylvania Genl Lea & his Armey in Penn Genl Longstreet killed & many ^{13} Northern Generals reported killed & wounded Col Biffles Cavalry crossed the Tennessee river had a battle & was successful took 50 prisoners

[hand pointing] Tues 7) Berryd Old Slut Past 6th July

& July 8 still raining) Rained from 2 until night verry heavy. It has rained nearly every day since Tuesday the 23 the most heavy washing rains, the ground has been too wet to plow ever since the 23 day of June & still too wet Our fences washed down & corn blowed down

1863 July the 9th, Still raining [hand pointing] Contradictory reports from Penn. the Northern account clames a Victory & the Southern acct claims it also There is greate danger of Genl Lees Armey suffering Greatly in Penn I fear from the signs of the times (the Northern accounts rumors that they have taken Vicksburg No certainty in the rumor) ( Southerns deny it)

Fri 10 [hand pointing] There has been no Southern soldiers here for sever days all gone ( & many Citizens also ) We have no telegraph dispatches nor Southern news of any kind for several days. There are some reports more favorable for the South this evening
