Just as soon as there heads & property are safe & I have No doubt but they have made stronger & more powerful efforts to have the Southern Confederacy recognized for the sole purpose of saving there property & persons frm the fate of Trators & rebels under the law & Constitution of the U.S. I am truly glad it is done if it is so. It may save the property & lives of thousands , & stop the torrents of blood that is & has been drenching our land so awfully in blood.

Wed 19. A greate many contradictory reports Nothing verry reliable We receved 49 bags of Cotton yarn from W J Porters factory See bill

Thurs 20 I went to Town fighting now going on at Charleston & Ft Sumpter Many Negroes left and some of them caught

1863 Augt Fri 21st The morning cloudy calm & cool No particular news The Fedrels are on there way to Clumbia & is to be here in a few days I think this report reliable I got it yesterday from Kizie in Town he was right from Nashville
It rained a verry pretty shower after dinner it will be of verry considerable advantage to our crop it not having rained since Monday- Sunday the 9th inst & but little then. No important news Our Citizens many of them again leaving expecting the Fedrels in to day or tomorrow.
