Monday 24th The sun rose clear but through considerable Mist & heavy diew No particular news through the night Some appearance of rain Many Negroes leaving (J W B Thomas & Joshua Thomas lost one apeace to day)
1863 Tu Augt 25. I went to Town Got a pass. Rumers of fighting at Charleston Brag reinforcing expecting a battle upon the Southern border of Tenn All parties appears to be preparing for it Much contradictory reports. Turned almost cold enough for a frost. (Genl Morgan in Command)
Wed 26. The morning is verry clear & cold for the time of year No particular news of the night. - I went to Town News that Fort Sumpter was battled down & Charleston was bambarted
Thurs 27 Rumers that Brags & Armey after fighting a while had given back from Chatanuga ^{to Atlanta Georgia, & that Rosencrans was firing into Chatanuga} I was in Town to day
Friday 28 Greate many rumers & contradictory reports The Federals are taking Many horses & Many Negroes are running of G A Pillow shot at . His Negores are all gone (the men)
