clashing of the Arms, the groans of the wounded & dying the awful & uncommon loud peals of the Cannon was truly awful and Sublime The greate No of Men, Batteries & horse that was engaged on all sides was seemed to me almost increditable together with the greate No of Slain & Wounded lying all over the greate battle field was truly awful
I thought I saw a large tall and beautiful green tree in the battle field full of dark green leaves surrounded from the bottom to the top with broken Canvass that showed many holes & rents, but through the holes the beautiful green leaves showed very plain & not hurt I thought Saw on the top of the tree there was a large tall Cupolo that was verry beautiful & of fine finish and upon the top near it was large & beautiful letters that seemed to be made out of Gould. I could not make them out or read them my self [hand pointing] I was in greate trouble & distress of mind, & awoke myself by crying aloud O God stop this dreadful battle. This dream has so pestered me that I have wrote it down

While I dreamed of seeing all these things & being present I felt not the least concern for my self but some friend & particular friends in the

Mon 21 Went to Town no particular news

1863 Sept Tues 22 Wm J Porter & J.O.Williams Esqr of Lawrence County came & stayed all night last night I went to Town with them & they took the Oath & give bond W.J.P. in $1000 & J O Williams in $3000 I went there security & they went each others, came home for dinner. Rumers of fighting at Chatanuga, contradictory reports. Green came up with them & went back to day
