There was a drove of Cattle driving towards Huntsville 2 broke down & a Man by the name of Beard sold them to me for $15.00 In about one hour after other soldiers quarter master McNight & his Maniger come & took the beaves saying that Beard had no right to sell them. So I lost $15. in turn the turn over. McNight belongs to Col Misners Command. The drovers said they were driving the beeves to Huntsville.

Mary Jack I went to Town in the evening Saw Mary there Jack Porter case & stayed all night Nothing new The ground thawed some & it became verry sloppy Thomas is not so well so Mary says. I am not so well to day.

Fri. 15 There was a little Snow fell last night Cloudy all day the clouds are coming from the N. W. & turning cold. We are trying to get wood Soldiers killed 8 Sheep yesterday

1864 Jany Sat 16 I went to Town The weather has moderated I find much dissatisfaction agt the course the Officer of the board of trade are pursuing. Got a letter from W J Porter at Nashville Beard A trial of his matters about his Cotton will be left to the Smalpox Court of Claims Several Smallpox cases in Town and around it
Some alarm is expressed about it. No particular news.
