Sun May 1st Soldiers
We have had some altercation with the soldiers taking
our Corn. 2 eat with us

I went to Town The small pox is in Jas Andrews family
A greate many soldiers some going to the front & some stopping
here The pickets are all around us

Tues 3
I stayed at home I went to Town in the evening Nothing
new, only a greate no of Negroes are leaving Nothing verry
oncomon only a greate deal of Overbearing & opresion are used
by the Military over the Citizens particularly with those
that are aposed to Abolition

Wed 4. Andrews Latta Porter & others Planting May
I went to Town Nothing new The Grand Jury has found
true bills agt the Citizens Andrews & others for whipping a
Negro by the Aldermen The Military wont give up the prisoners
planted the Locust Hill field to day

May 1864 Th 5 planting Small pox
We finished planting Locust Hill field of Corn yesterday
beautiful weather I stayed at home No particular news.
There are an increase of Small pox cases near & at Columbia
it is alarming.

I went to Town. Mary came after dinner having been at
my house No particular news Jack with others are still in
