Tues 10 fight
I went to Town to get the news Great & harde fighting
in Virginia greate excitement amongst the Citizens terable
battle on Friday the 6th. It rained verry hard thunder &

1864 May Wed 11 fight Mary Thomas Fanna Rain Self
I went to Town Greate excitement with regard to the
War in Virginia Williams went on to Nashville
I found Maryann Thomas L & Wife & child & Mrs Jas
Webster all in Town on there way to Nashville they went in
the Omnibus I came home before night not verry well I
got wet last evening. The pickets are still standing in the
Mouth of the lane next Town.

I tryed to clean out our garden Onions potatoes &c I
went to Town after dinner Greate uneasiness upon all sides
with regard to the battles that are now going on Margaret
went with me We got some little things for her & myself all
amounting to $14.00

I went to Town after dinner Wm J Porter gained his suit
(his cotton) left for Memphas There are rumers of fighting
at Dalton & Buzzard roost & hard fighting in Virginia Greate
slaughter many killed on all sides in both fights
Sat 14 May Lee fight
I went to Town News that Lees Army is used up & that
the Fedrels have gained several Victories No other particular
news
