I left home this morning for Nashville got there about
or near sun down put up & stayed at the St. Cloud house Mr
Carter an old acquaintance the proprieror Had good fair &
kind treatment I got 2 bbs of Salt $15.00 (powder & shot
$15.50 Mary takes half) of the Amunition. The 1st days travel
worsted me verry much I having been sick not verry well the
time I was there I bought a Summer coat $14.00 I think a good
bargain We settled a good deal of Marys matters relative to
her Cotton & she bought some things We left Nashville Friday
morning in the Onmibus & got home safe I was excedingly
tyered & broke down & slept verry sound indeed

July 1st Salt /
I went to Town Not much news Got my Salt Amunition &
Marys Sugar - & paid the Carrage to Jordan & put it in Wilsons

Sun 3. J W B Thomas / Col McRorey / J Brigs
It has been raining off and on all day We learned that
J Briggs was killed yesterday at the head of a Scout Near to
Spring Hill by some Gurillas. -

Col McCrorey came this morning with J W B Thomas attending
to Thomass Mare (to run?) News came this evening that J
Brigs was killed in the edge of Spring Hill on last night He
was leading the Fedrel Scouts upon the hunt of Gurillas about
Midnight.
