1863 Novr 4th Since 24th Oct I have been from home a great deal they have been sewing wheat etc. got up lot corn & this week John Clark has been here pulling down & putting up little room chimney that he put up more than a year ago that fell from the House & would not do, finishing sowing wheat here to day Sewed about 20 Bus. here & 31 Bus at The Plantation in a Ring 50 in^{Set Mr Moorfield to sewing again & will 5 Bus more.} all We have here 10 or 11 Stacks fodder here & 3 stacks Oats & 14 at Plantation & 9 stacks Oats in all.

6th got home last night. John has been putting up chimbleys this week to little room & New House, little rooms smokes got to make it higher to day, stealing Corn out of our fields on Creek & next to Beens [Ben's?] Halling up now off creek Sent Smith to mill.

11th Getting up Corn etc etc

20th Carried ^{Carrd 1 more same purpose}4 Logs to Keens Saw ^mill this day for floors of negro House began sugar corn & Rain put us out Sent Smith to Post office sent 3 letters 1 to Allan 1 to Jerry 1 to Sallie

18 Aug 1847 Catharine Spiller started to Pine_ =ville to Miss L Wilson’s School at Pineville Academy. Board at Mr & Mrs Clark @ $7 pr month $10 for Tuition of 5 months - Board & Tuition $9 pr month - fine weather

23rd Too wet to Thrash wet. Succoring & worming & Topping Tobacco on Branches here & at Johns

25 Rained all day yesterday yet cloudy succoring^worming& toping^{ground etc}new Jacob P Graves starts to Mr. Waddel to school @ not quite $1 pr. month for the time he goes.

27 Thrashed out our wheat

30 Cloudy & foggy this morning succoring & topping Tobacco this morning Rained very hard Saturday evening —

31 Talton & Henry put up chimney to House for Jane. began Monday 29 & worked 2½ days & went Home sick

Sep 1st Pulling fodder in fresh ground & cutting Buck Wheat there yesterday alse & Fed went to Mr Hunt to pay for Epp & Allen helping me to thrash our wheat —

2 Pulling Fodder in big field to day Tying up Blade fodder etc etc Ann & Jane in House. Henry at Mr. Lewis^{Raising barn}

1859 April 11th Mr Chumbly making Kates shoes. Mr Bell Cutting out fire place up stairs John pulling down chimney & going to put it up again Henry Halling Sand & wood, to day got 1 Bbl Lime from J.D. Hunts Est. very windy day. cleared off this morning

12 Began to Plant Corn this morning, in lot next to fresh ground, Jacob doing but little, John putting up chimney to House claiborne helping him etc Sent Jerry Smith down to Yates after a p^s Iron to go over fire place up stairs - warm day this day -

13th Planting below Barn on Branch nearly all day. Jacob done but very little John at work on chimney with claiborne to wait on him, I went down to aspen Grove Kitty complaining I had her moved in Kitchen

14th Last night about 10 or 11 Oclock they sent for me to go down to aspen Grove Kitty was Sick they also sent for Doct Thompson & Mrs. Neal all there about 1 oclock in the night & Kitties child a Girl Born about 3 Oclock this morning Halled some Sand up this morning John at work on chimney Set Coal Kill on fire this morning Planting Corn, last night Kate Sallie & Miss Simpson came here & this morning Jacob went off with them, - very windy to day & ^warm

15th Planting corn went after bricks Twice Halled 1 Load Sand, John at work on chimney, I went down to aspen Grove we are nearly done planting corn

1859 April 16th Finished planting corn to day, made Box for cellar fire place & Mr Chummy laid the Hearth, & fixed the place in setting Room, John nearly finished the chimney except pencilling the bottom, Halled 1 Load of wood, & took down^Poles- etc at chimney - John has been here at work on chimney 5¾ days,-

17th Snowing this morning like all the world Several Inches deep turned cooler

18. Went to ^court yesterday qualified as Exer of the Estate of J D Hunt Dec^d. Halling wood in morning then went to Halling & Coltering in second years ground, Tuesday 19th I went to Gran field to Mrs Pannills son W^ms Funeral Plowing & Hilling —

21st Went Mrs Hunt to see Mr Hubbard Settle with Yates etc etc Coltering till 12 Oclock Halling out manure & Hilling all day — Nannie gone to Mrs Fitzgeralds to day —

22 Coltering & Hilling till it Rained about 12 Oclock then Halling wood cutting & malling wood, Riving Tobacco sticks & clem spining. I went down to work on Road from Camp Branch to good Hope, finished about 12 oclock, Nannie got home this day, about 2 Oclock this evening

23rd Rained again last night, Sent to Mill for overseer, Halling wood & manure to day Riving Tobacco Cutting & splitting wood. Turned very cool last night & the wind blows Hard ^{& cold} I went to Cedar Forest to warrant v^s Est J D Hunt Dec^d etc had Bill shod at yates behind etc etc.

1859 July 16th overseer Bob & claiborne getting & Hewing Logs for Stables Balance working Potatoes etc,-

17th Stayed at till 2 Oclock & went to CH

18 At Court attending to Sunday business Sent waggon to yates to cut Tires, balance cutting wood & Piling, & Hewing Plates for Stables & Sills,- Halled up Sand in evening Sold JD Hunts Buggy for $138 Saddle for 21.34 etc etc, Rained a little in night Sallie wiht [with] me to Court, Bro Yates brot her back & I borrowed Mr Hargraves Saddle & bridle,-

19 Cloudy & like for Rain Halled up Rafters etc for barn & negro Houses John Came here yesterday to lathe our House & Plaster the Joice. balance Cutting wood etc clem Spining & Picking wood, etc, — chumbly & Henry at work On Barn this morning etc Turned things in fresh field last week

20th John at work here Bob gone to Shop with Mrs Hunts Horses at work on negro House Halling Plates & Sills from aspen Grove, Cutting grass down there

21st Bob here helping chumbly about Rafters of House putting up Rafters & weather Boarded Gable Ends Halled all the p^s this morning John finished Lathing & is plastering I went to whiteheads yesterday evening & paid him 275.79½ for Joshua Stone Dec^d from P. Stone dowers negroes - collected to this^day

22nd John began to Plaster big Room Friday 12 Oclock, worming in succoring Tobacco finished weather boarding negro house - etc about 11 Oclock work on Barn
