April 16, 1859- April 23, 1859
1859 April 16th Finished planting corn to day, made Box for cellar fire place & Mr Chummy laid the Hearth, & fixed the place in setting Room, John nearly finished the chimney except pencilling the bottom, Halled 1 Load of wood, & took downPoles- etc at chimney - John has been here at work on chimney 5¾ days,-
17th Snowing this morning like all the world Several Inches deep turned cooler
18. Went to court yesterday qualified as Exer of the Estate of J D Hunt Decd. Halling wood in morning then went to Halling & Coltering in second years ground, Tuesday 19th I went to Gran field to Mrs Pannills son Wms Funeral Plowing & Hilling —
[2]0 Wednesday went to aspen Grove, Hilling & Coltering - fine weather at this time
21st Went Mrs Hunt to see Mr Hubbard Settle with Yates etc etc Coltering till 12 Oclock Halling out manure & Hilling all day — Nannie gone to Mrs Fitzgeralds to day —
22 Coltering & Hilling till it Rained about 12 Oclock then Halling wood cutting & malling wood, Riving Tobacco sticks & clem spining. I went down to work on Road from Camp Branch to good Hope, finished about 12 oclock, Nannie got home this day, about 2 Oclock this evening
23rd Rained again last night, Sent to Mill for overseer, Halling wood & manure to day Riving Tobacco Cutting & splitting wood. Turned very cool last night & the wind blows Hard & cold I went to Cedar Forest to warrant vs Est J D Hunt Decd etc had Bill shod at yates behind etc etc.

1859 May 29th Clear cool day,- I staid at home - - 30 Halled 1 Log to worhsams Mill & Carrd 2 Turns Corn & got 1 of meal -
31st Card 1 Log to same mill & 1 Turn Corn & got the 2 Turns meal, & feet weather boarding - @ 6/- pr Hundred -
June 1st Sent to Fannie W Fitzgeralds after 5 Barrels Corn bot & pd for @$4.00 sent the chair Mrs Hunt gave me to Peaks to mend thining & setting corn this morning then finished weeding in Lower field & come to Orchard, worked Pepper —
2nd Plowing fresh ground Tobacco weeding Corn in the Orchard had little shower Rain yesterday & looks ^ like more to day
3rd Rained a little in the night, planted Peas Plowing corn weeding Fresh ground Tobacco. Rained at Plantation last night & they planting & finished & replanted nearly over wheat taking Rust down there, 4 Replanted our Tobacco lot & all
5 went to meeting Edgehill very Cool day Frost last night & cooler this evening -
6 Halled wood till 12 Oclock Plowing Corn weeding down fresh ground Tobacco,-
7 Same work, chumbly making steps for Porch next to Garden, got Bills shoes changed nearly done weeding fresh ground Tobacco & Plowing corn on Road ——
8 Harrowing Tobacco Plowing corn Choping Corn etc etc Fine Rain in evening I got to Mr Pannills from CH & had to stay all night on acct Rain,
9th Replanting Tobacco this morning & took nearly all day to do it
10 Sent Henry to aspen Grove for Lamb & chickens

1859 June 20th Jack & Jinny Halling Logs & Rocks to day & 18 June My Jenny & Mr Faris Jack Replanting Tobacco etc etc — — I went to Court Sallie Came from Fannies
21st working in Tobacco & Corn to day
22nd began to Cut wheat Raining allmost every day Nanny & me went to Aspen Grove etc etc Colo Parker Came to Survey Jno D Hunts Land sold Kelley & worsham
23rd Cutting wheat & finished Lot this evening & fresh ps lower end of field Finished Surveying Land about 10 Oclock, Barksdale Came here, my Hog Came Home thats been missing so Long, lame in one Leg -
24th Settled with worhsam & Bybee Mr Wm L Pannill helped Settle Bybee Halling up Post for yard Mrs Hunts Bob Worked here yesterday plowing Halling Logs to Mill Halling home timber, Hewing Logs for stable I am going to Mrs Colemans to day - I shall Give Mr Shields $1 more for his 5 Hogs as I think they are worth it making $15 for the 5 $3 a ps Rained Tremendous hard nearly all night, very wet time now,.
25 Halling Logs to mill & Halling home Timbers from worsham, Clem spining Balance Cutting & Hewing Logs for Stable done Long Ones, 12 Oclock went to Plowing & Halling up Second yrs Land Tobacco Bob has only worked here one day to day I went to worshams mill Jas Harris Sarah McCullocks & aspen Grove etc, = yesterday we all went to Mrs Colemans
26th Stayed at home & rested this day being Sunday

1859 Mr Fox at work on Well 2nd day Henry halling Rock etc Jas Shields Brot me 9 Barrels Corn, fine day -
Novr. 4th Mr Keatts finished chimney & left - Mr Fox at work on well, fine day. Johns Estates Pleasant & charles Halled Rocks to day & Henry all day
= 5th Fox at work on well chumney gone to the store, 2 Boys Cutting Henry Halling wood, sent Robin to shop to be shod before, Fox & Horse been here since 9 Oclock ThursdayWednesdayleft Saturday evening fine weather Mrs Hunt came back here this morning but going to Johns again. Fox left ½ after 2 Oclock this evening & horse went to Plantation in evening. No Fox, Hewed ps for Ice House in morning Killed little Beef weighted 142 lbs Halled up ½ stack Oats, cutting in new ground, Isaac overby here to day quite cool —
8 no Fox yet I went to Pannills & Tan yard got no Leather Sent for waggon fixings for Lynchg in morning chumbly shingling Henry, House claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting malling Rails & wood & Piling –
9th Mr Fox has not come. Henry went after waggon & started to Lynchg this morning malling Mr Chumbly & little Henry at work Negro House
10th Nails gave out this evening I got back in Two days from Lynchg

1861 West & Mr Panill about money coming to J D Hunts Est. & Wm Smiths Est under Deeds of Trust from James B Faris property sold 31st March 1860 & Due in Six months. say 31st Augt 1860 & Geo West is to pay me for the above Estates awarding to Statement, Rained this evening, Mrs Hargrave came here this evening, great excitement & men are starting to Richmond to War with the North. Many are gone, many are going, Halled up stack fodder this evening & last in far field ¬next to Whiteheads Coltering Hilling & planting Corn finishing all at home to day ¬– fine weather Sent to Mill for Chumney & 1 Turn Corn for Ourselves this day – ours at mill yet
25 Hilling in new ground & Coltering Henry Harrowing Corn Land here by cow Pen & finished planting at home Planted snaps etc Put Guano on our Plant Beds
26 Halling out manure this morning & coltering with steers in evening & hilling, Henry halling rails down on creek to day –¬ etc I went to aspen Grove to day they wont get done planting corn this week –¬ they are hilling there they have 30 Lambs to this time
27 Halling out manure & Rails on creek next to McHaneys coltering in new ground till 10 Oclock Hilling in new ground, I went to Riceville Settled with Doct Thompson for Est & nearly paid my account too,- 28 Raining this morning
28th Showery this morning, put my old Sow in pen
29 Finished Coltering & laying off new ground Beding up Creek Land for Corn, Hilling halling out manure & nearly done, overseer [faded] digging holes for Post at Carriage House did not finish there
