1849 Jany 26 Finishing Plant Beds above House sewing& Fencing covering etc - cloudy & like for Rain — weather warm — 1 Bed Large one 15 yds Square & the other 11 yds Square

27th Cutting Large growth in new ground & Halling Rails for Corn field fence, James East relinquished his Lease of Hill field Plantation this & its rented to AW Worshom & Thos East Junr son of Thomas East

28 cloudy & like for Rain, my wife gone to Mrs Hunts 29 gone to Mrs Hunts etc

29 cutting big growth in big new ground weather moderate a like like Rain

31 Loaded waggon with Lugs & started to Lynchg about 10 Oclock wednesday & got back Friday night about 1 Oclock in night made trip in 2½ days sold Lug at 1-60,- carrd nearly 1000 lbs while we were gone made little new ground fence Halled wood, & making up out side corn field fine weather cleared off last night tho it has been cloudy & Rainy all the week, nearly

Feby 1-2nd Fencing out side corn field [fr?] – 3. Still Do weather cloudy & cool 4 Rainy- 5. Still cloudy & Rain

5. Striping Halled up a stack Oats & straw to rackTobacco in new ground barn

6 Malling Halling wood & cleaning up new ground, - weather windy & cool

7. Sent Henry to Doct Whites Mill 1 Large Log for Paling & 2 Bags Corn 1 Bbl - malling & stacking wood etc etc etc

8 Have 5 Logs at mill only brot home one Rolled Logs in Little new ground after 12 oclock, put up about 6 or 7 heaps & card out the wood malled before Rolling swingling flax Lila

1849 June 12th Went to S. S. M H. to try Thos East for stealing Stephen Redgrages oats. got clear from evidence, - Plowed Peas & corn Plowed drillcorn second time by middle barn, & below Plum bushes Weeding drill corn next to orchard - Cloudy damp weather -

13. Plowed out Garden Sweet Potatoes cotton Irish Potatoes, begun to lay for tobaccoof[f] Lot. weeding & Plowed fresh ground next to orchard

14. Beding Lot this & thining drillJust Plowed corn

15. Finished Planting Tobacco & Replanted all new ground & little second yrs ground weather warm & moist - Working cotton & branch corn to day Plowing & weeding. Finished weeding cotton this 12 oclock & gone on branch Hot weather about this time —

16 Rained a little last evening. Weeding & resetting corn on Branch where missing. Planting watermellons simblingPumpkins Potatoes setting out some Beet, Turnip, screan the seed of which Mr Tucker said came from DenmarkDenmark

17 Fine clear weather, Finished yesterday weeding out Branch. Corn, not quite done weeding corn yet. began to Plow Hill next to orchard, second time also next to 18woods by middle Barn, replanting corn on 19. Branch Lower part, - done weeding & Plowing our corn second time one this side branch & began second time on the other side branch runing 4 Plows, weeding or Hilling up Sweet Potatoes etc - clear weather nights cool, great talk of mad Dogs this Spring. cholera about very much this Spring Mr C. A Hunt Died of it at Independence Mo. on his way to California, - its now in Richmond Va Extra session Legislature moved toto finishFauquier Cty
