216 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jun 17 1887 Ordered that the City Clerk be allowed an assistant in his office for such times as he may need one at a salary of $3.00 per day. Ordered that the Clerk be and he is hereby directed to give ten (10) days public notice as required by law that a general election for all city officers will be held on Monday July 11th 1887 . The officers to be elected shall be as follows to wit: One mayor, One City Attorney; one Chief of Police and from the First Ward one Councilman for the term of two years; from the Second Ward one Councilman for two years; from the Third Ward one Councilman for two years; from the Fourth Ward one Councilman for two years. the places apopinted to conduct the same are as follows to wit: First Ward Polls to be held at Engine House No 2 on South Third Street Inspector J D McDermott, Judges W V Rinehart and W D Graves, Clerks J C Holms and W F Dearborn Second Ward, Polls to be held at Engine House No 1 on Columbia Street, Inspector [ M R Maddocks]], Judges F W Wusthoff & Chas McDonald, clerks Chas Swensen and Josiah Collins. Third Ward Polls to be held at Brown's Pavillion on Second Street, Inspector A W Piper Judges L B Andrews & F Anthony, Clerks Douglas Young & R M Hopkins. Fourth Ward Polls to be held at Engine House No 4 Inspector W L Reston, judges Henry Roseberg and Charles Baker, Clerks J McGrath & Henry Harkins Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted by the city Attorney entitled "An Ordinance providing for the erection of wooding buildings within certain limits" which is passedd by the following vote Ayes Frink, Hinckley, Lake, Russell, Reitze. Noes none.

426 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Apr 6 1888 Petition of Engine Co. No. 4. for the appointment of a custodian for Engine House No 4 read & referred to the Committee on Fire and Water. Communication from the Chief of Police recommending that J McDaniel and Geo Van Dyke be placed in the Police force vice Fay & Huntoon, resigned, also that two addition officers be added to the Police force and W L Preston and W F Peir for appointment as such officers read & filed. Communication from E C McClannahan offering to fill in Washington Street and South Second Street as heretofore ordered by the Council for seven (7) cents per cubic yard read and referred to Street Committee with power to act. Monthly Reports Recieved. From City Attorney, read and ordered filed. From Police Justices Soderberg and Jones read and referred to the Judiciary Committee. From Chief of Police, read and ordered filed. From Street Commissioner, referred to Street Committee and returned approved. From City Jailor referred to Finance Committee. From Harbor-Master read and referred to the Streeet Committee. From Chief of the Fire Department making certain suggesstions and recommendations read and referred to Committee on Fire and Water. From Custodian of the Powder House read and referred to Committee on Public Building & Grounds From City Treasurer, read and referred to Finance Com. Committee Reports Recieved From Street Committee rejecting petition of W H Howard for permission to erect a cigar stand
