ALF. CHAVE

21st December, 1967.

Director of the Barambah Aboriginal Reserve, BARAMBAH.

Dear Sir, This will appear a very strange request. As you probably know during the last few months an aboriginal girl, Evonne Goolagong has won many Tennis Tournaments and she could become one of our finest players.

In a very small dictionary of Aboriginal words I have been trying to find out what Goolagong means. The closest that I have been able to get is Goolagool which means "Water holing tree".

I wonder if you could help me with your far greater knowledge of the matter and get as near as possible to the aboriginal meaning for this young Tennis Champion's name.

May I wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 1968.

Yours sincerely, Alf. Chave.
