This 14 day of December 1822 Personally came George Cagle before me George Wilson a Justice of the Peace for the county aforesaid, and made Oath that on the morning of the 17 of November last, Charles Cagle son of the deponant [sic] was at the house of William Wallace, in said county stabbed in the neck, of he which be in a very short time died- Depenant [sic] is informed and believes that the stab and mortal wound is given, as given and inflicted by a certain Wil liam Wilkinson, who was apprehinded [sic], and on this way, to Nashville made his escape, from the persons who had him in custody. Depenant [sic] fur ther says that from the Circumstances detailed to him, he does believe that Charles Cagle was killed and murdered by said William Wilkinson and that said William is now has fled from Justice and is now going at large in places unknown to deponent
