Morgan County T. 20th Nov 1824

Dear Sir

Having been honored by the Legislature of this State with the appointment of Surveyor for Morgan County under the Law of 1823 Establishing Entry takers offices in the different Counties and having made most of the Surveys and being about to Remove from this State to the State of Mississippi I deem it my duty to make this formal tender to your Excellency of my Resignation of the above appointment which I pray you to accept

Permit me to Recommend to your Excellencys notice John Staples Esqr as a proper person to fill said appointment He is a practical Surveyor has acted as my deputy and is perhaps the only man who wishes the appointment and the only one Capable of discharging the incumbant duties
