Marietta, Sept 24th 1825
The Honourable Wm Carrol
Sir after taking my leave of you at Nashville I proceeded immediately to where the boat sunk after continuing there a few days we got the boat in a situation to go ahead and arivd at Portland on the 26th of August after delivering our goods as directed I went on to Frankfort with the letter you gave me directd to Judge Barry whoom [sic] I ascertain had movd to Lexington where on the next day I arivd and had the pleasure of an interview with him. Mr Bledsoe & Mr Bodley When I presented the order from you they uniquivoc ally expressd their approbation to the payment of the same but having no funds immediately at there [sic] command they wrote a letter expressing [sic] there opinion that it ought to be paid and if the money Could not be obtaind from the State Treasurer they were willing to borrow the money and become responsible themselves for the same in conjointly with the other part of the Committee & trust to the decision of the Legislature when they should sell Those Gentleman advisd me to to return to Frankfort immediately when they thought the arrangement proposd would be acceeded too [sic] without any further trouble.
