Knoxville May 27th 1829

Dear Sir

I am advised that John Withierson the solicitor for the 3rd district, departed this life a few days since. The protem - appointment devolves on you Mr Spencer Jarnagin of this place will accept this appointment. Mr Jarnagin is emminently qualified, none better in East Tennessee in point of legal attainments. Mr Jar does not live in the district but he practices in several of the counties of the district.

Judge Anderson, Mr E. A. Foster and many others of your City are acquainted with Mr J - & standing as a lawyer should legal attainments be the test, but few gentlemen in our state could claim pre-eminence over Mr J - for your favor in the present case.
