Govr Houston:

D Sir, Mr. Dunlop informs me that he will resigne [sic] his appointment of Solicitor of this district early in march

If he should do so, I wish to be considered as an applicant for the situation, I was only advi sed of it last evening or I should have addressed you sooner,

I have no great claims to urge on your Excellency I have no doubt many of the other applicants (for I am told there are a host) are highly respectable and honourable gentlemen You are aware that I reside in the district to be vacated
