John L. Allin Application for Office of Solicitor

Paris Febuary 4th 1828

Dear Genl,,

There has nothing transpired in Paris lately that is wourth your attention except it be reencounter I recently had with a notorious Horsthief & Counterfiter, I am attempting to Arrest him. he made battle with a dirk knife and was under the necessity of Shooting of him I thought that I had killed him but he came too again and is likly to recover in the reencounter I got my clothes cut but lost no blood after I discharged my pistol loded with duck shot in his breast, he did not fall but doubled himself up claped his hand to the wound turned & walke off a few steps lookid at his Knife & came at me again, I met him & smote him to the ground with the butt of my Pistol

I have ben informed by Mr John Dunlap that his brother Hen W Dunlap to resighn his Appointment of Solisitor for for our district should that be a fact I have no doubt but there will be many applicants to fill the place. I for one beg leave to an nanse my name & hop you will enroll me on your list of Applicants for that appointment. we the people Paris enjoy excellent health. the Town is improving considderable.
