To his Excellency Samuel Houston Gov. of Tennessee

We the subscribers inhabitants of Henry county beg leave to state to your Excellency that we are well acquained with William M Brown attorney at Law of the Town of Paris and from his age, knowledge of the Law and experience as a practitioner we are pusuaded that his appointment to the office of Solicitor will be acceptable

We therefore recomend to your excelency his appointment to that office

Fentress County Dec. 21st 1834

To his excellency William Carroll Governor &c

Sir, At the last session of our General Assembly the appointment of "justice of the peace" was confered [sic] on the subscriber and shortly thereafter McClellan Esqr who was then acting as such [resigned?] - I am now about to remove and shall on tomorrow leave the County and then leave the company without any justice of the peace, nor is there any convenient in any adjoining company - when the business of the company and [illegible] aquires the almost constant action of such an office It has been known for some time that I would remove and at my request the com pany has held an election and designated the person who they desire shall receive a temporary appointment from the [illegible -tive?] Mr George A. Brock, is the person designated by the company as will be seen by the certificate of the captain commanding which is annexed to this letter - I have no personal acquaintance with your excell =ency notwithstanding which I hope you will excuse [me?] for pressing the appoin =tment and saying also that Mr Brock is a very suitable person and has [illegible] [before?] [active?] [acted?] as a justice of the peace [illegible] County - Genl Smith with the secretary of state
