Dear Sir
My Brother Hugh having resigned the office of attorney General for this District and there being many applicants to you for the office, and Major Jennings of this place being one of that number, I have to say to you that from the aquaintance I have with Major Jennings and the character he has in this circuit as a Lawyer it is not inferior to any and superi =or to almost all, and I have no doubt that he is well qualified to discharge the duties of said office. Thus much I have taken the liberty to say to you as to his qualifications - you being a strainger to the gentlemen of the Bar in this section of the Country; and it is but justice to Major Jennings to say he could discharge the duties of the office with credit to himself, and pleasure to his friends.
