Greenville 6 June 1828

Dear Sir

Iwrote Your Predessor last summer on the subject of Daniel Allens pardon, who was convicted for manslaughter in Killing James Houston of this County, Ialso signed a Petition in his behalf which contains a detailed statement of the principal facts in the case having been one of those who assisted to defend him, and enabled state, the Petition contained so well as I now remember, afair [?] of the facts and for what good reasons Govr. Carroll did not act on the Petition definitively Icannot tell, in my humble Opinion if ever there was a case, that deserved Execu tive Clemency it is Allen's and Ithink from afull know ledge of the general sentiments entertained in this part of the County nothing would give the respectable part of the community more satisfaction than his pardon, his demeanor, and state of health require it, he being in a delicate health and threatened with consumption, I know some persons can be found opposed to it, but those generally are the relations friends & partizans of his enemies.

Ido hope You will again take the Subject under Your consideration and grant it, and should you do it, Ifeel confident on future lifes it will be asource of gratification, that You have exercised the constitutional prerogative with which You are vested [?] wishing Your future welfare am Your freind
