Governor Houston
Sir
I am informd Dunlap has resignd his appointment in the Paris District and that Hughes is an applicant in the vacancy. I can say nothing of him more than you know, but of his qualifications are equal to his opponents he would prosecute with as much zeal as any other. and it would be such a favor that he would ever acknow ledge I am confident with gratitude for his situation is truly indigent and he has a growing family upon his hands which he cannot support well. It would also put me under obligation to you. But I acknoledge you are under no obligation to him nor myself neither in the last election
yours truly
