Dear Sir

Hugh W Dunlap the attorney gene ral for this District is (I am advised) about to Resign his appointment Col B Gillespie Informs me that he will be one of the applicants before you for that office and in as much as he was Indisposed during the last Term of the legislature and little able to attend to the Business of the house it is likely you had not an opportunity of being able to Judge of his Talents I have Practised law in the same Courts with him for the last three years I have no hesitation in saying to you that ^he [deserves?] the office as well as any young man within the Circuit he is Industrious Examines his [crimes?] with Patience and attention & when Engaged in professional duties is suficiently ambitious to Insure Success When he has any Premises to go upon I need not say to you that he was one of your most zealous and Consumate friends during the Time of his Electioneer ing I would say more to you with Purpose to him but I am well aware that your Perfect knowledge of human nature together with your knowledge of those young men who will be Candidaes for the office will be to you a suffici ent Recommendation to Judge aright. I am well and Remain your friend & able servt
