The Governor of the State of Tennessee

Sir I having been in a Low Condition of health for some time I do think it my duty and do hereby resign and tender my Office of Surveyor of Rhea County E. Tennessee.

And do recommend David Shelton Esq as a suitable Person for the appointment Protem in my room-

The 4th March 1828

We are intimately acquainted with David Shelton and know him to be a man of honesty and probity and believe him qualified to fill the appointment of Surveyor for Rhea County and do therefore, cheerfully Join in the above recommendation.
