Dr Sir
I am under expectation that I shall be ready to sit out for Washington, some time to day, or early tomorrow morning. [I] Shall I suppose be absent from this place, three or four Weeks; In the mean time I beg you to have a Watchfull eye towards the frontiers, and their your nieghbours the Cherokees.
If any thing of Moment should Occur, let Me know by express as soon as possible.

Knoxville 4th October 1797
Sir
In this present year I ordered the Colonel command out of Sevier county immeadiately after the indians had killed One of the Citizens of that County to keep out two active persons, to Reconoitre [sic], and keep a watch on the pass ways of the indians, until we could understand whether or not they intended to commit any further Hostilities. The colonel Isued [sic] this order and accordingly two proper persons served about Eleven days [?], and were then discharged, on my b I am also informed that General White ordered out a small party to go in search after of some indians who had wounded a man on or near Clinch River, tho [?] in the time of my absence from this place,
The General I am told took several depositions prior to his sending ordering out the party which Justifies the measure he then took pursued- I have now to request that the agent for the

make a worthy & usefull [sic] member of your society - give him good advice & treat him as my friend. he will be yours: & I trust you will have pleasure in finding him gratefull [sic] for your attentions - if he should settle in the neighbourhood of Blount - Cocke - White - or stockley Donaldson be so good as to request their attentions to him which will oblige

Lebanon April 30th 1819
Dear Governor
I would long since have written to you, but the subject was rendered unnecessary by Col Ward's declining a Poll. I saw soon after your departure from this place Mr Catron, from the upper Circuit, and he said in White, Overton, &C that you would get three fourths of all the Votes, let who would after. This I would have written long since but I thought you would have neither trouble nor un= easiness.I supposed, when you had opposition that you would feel anxiety, but I really did not suppose, for one moment, that you need apprehend defeat.
I do not know at this time of anything to communicate, that will interest you at this time, - as for myself I am moving on in the business of the Law and do better than I had hoped at the start I am not idle nor lazy, and you will remark a change in this
