Knoxville 1 April 1797

Sir

Yours of 27 Jany Iam [?] with; some several years ago in obedience to an order & request from the Secretary of the department of war; Irendered an account of the Monies alluded to in your letter to Mr D. Allison, also poss delivered to him a number of Vouchers and papers which Iam was of opinion would be ^fully sufficient to evince that there could be no monies remaining in my hands - the account was not compleat & in full of my claims against the United States, having yet an a farther Account to render demand, and being obliged to reside at this place, have it not in my power to transmit a more it to you at so early a period as Icould wish, by reason my ^the papers on that head is at my seat, a considerable distance from this place, but will send it forward so soon as Ican make it convenient ^by a safe hand conveyance.
