You will please to t embody ten of your [choicest?] the most effective men of your Company, well equipt with Arms, And Ammunition, and provisions, and proceed to make immeadiate ^& diligent search after the Murderers of a certain Ballad, Coffey, and one other person whose name is unknown to me - You will take every necessary measure to have the perpetrators apprehended- And further I do authorize you to call on all off= =icers both Civil & military, to be [illegible] and assisting at your request, to grant you the every necessary support, for the appr ehension of the said Villians & Murderors [sic]
Given in Knoxville this 25th July 1799

and further you are authorized to use such other means as your prudence and discretion may suggest to be expedient for accomplishing your laudable pursuit - In witness whereof I John Sevier Governor, &c have set his my hand & seal this 25 day of July in Knoxville 1799 ~

Sir Inclosed you have a Petition for a Mitigation of the Imprisonment of Joseph Mc Peters who was tryed [sic] at Morgan last Circuit Court Th I was present at his tryal [sic] there was no Defense made for him, there being no attorney at Court but Mr Anderson the Atto. General whose name is to the Inclosed. McPeters has been in Knoxville jail a considerabe length of time before court and since - and has recd. all the Punishment excepting the balance of the Imprisonment

The prayer of the Petition is so for granted as to release the Prisoner from imprison =ment from the 10th august next.
