Hawkins county 25 July 1796

Sir

After congratulating you on your advancement to the present Dignity, I wish to inform you, that in the year 1788 there was an Expedition went against the Indians knowen by the name of Martins Campaign at which time my self and others supplied the men with a Quantity of Provisions, Mr Saml Doah acting As Commissary, Capt Jno Caffree and Others acting as Deputies under him. We have received noth= =ing as yet for said provisions &c, but are told that the Assembly of No Carolina [this line and the next 6 lines cut off by torn paper] pay for them, how the affair stands If your Excellency will please with a few lines informing or who I am to look to for my the Public Owes me a considerable more than Oblige your Most
