Plumb Grove 8th July 1797

Sir

It is with extreme pain I am informed that the indians have again lately done some damage, by wounding a man some where near unto Sharps Station - what can induce at this time such a conduct I am at a loss to understand, as they are sensible every measure is pursuing to accommodate their complaints -

Since I had the pleasure of seeing you at Nashville, I have been well informed, that there is emissaries in the Nation, and I wish they may not be stimulating these deluded people to commence hostilities - Imake no doubt permit me to request that you will exert your influence, to have the aggressor punished

Knoxville July 13th 1797

Dear Sir/

In your Absence from this place some thing has turned Up Contrary to our Expectations -

on the 28th of June the Indians fired at John Johnston Near to Sharps Station on Clinch and give him a Slite [sic] Wound on the side, as his deposision [sic] of that will make more fully Appear -

on which Information I ishued [sic] my order to Colo Sawyers to send out an Ensigns Command in serch [sic] of the Villians [sic] and if possoble [sic] have them brought to Justice, in Compliance with my order the Colo ordered Ensign Seags with 20 privits of Mounted Infantery [sic] out on tour not Exceeding fifteen days. this day Ensign Seags Retturned to
