Knoxville July 13^th 1797

Dear Sir/

In your Absence from this place some thing has turned Up Contrary to our Expectations -

on the 28^th of June the Indians fired at John Johnston Near to Sharps Station on Clinch and give him a Slite [sic] Wound on the side, as his deposision [sic] of that will make more fully Appear -

on which Information I ishued [sic] my order to Col^o Sawyers to send out an Ensigns Command in serch [sic] of the Villians [sic] and if possoble [sic] have them brought to Justice, in Compliance with my order the Colo ordered Ensign Seags with 20 privits of Mounted Infantery [sic] out on tour not Exceeding fifteen days. this day Ensign Seags Retturned to
