Carter County the 23^rd December 1801 Dear sir/ inclosed you will receive a return pleese to send on the commissions, as we cannot rais men for want of officers - I would be glad the Election of a General could be detained unto after the call^d session of the Assembly if it could be dun with propriety, sir as quick as you can give me information respacting the men marching I hope you will, also the call^d session the assembly, as I wish to be at it, and shall go to South Carolina should the Army not march - major Byler & Carriger is varey desierous to march Carriger has kno family and a [saad?] young man should you have not appointed the majors. I wish you could think of one or booth of them if you could do it and not do your self an injury
