Philadelphia December 28th 1802

Sir

Conformably to directions received from the Departmt. of State I transmitted to Pittsburg in the month of November last, a box containing the laws of the United States, and directed to your Excellency at Knoxville ~ Lieutenant J. W. Brownson Assistant Military Agent at Pittsburg was requested to have the box forwarded by the earliest oppertunity; permit me to ask the favour of your Excellency to direct an acknowledgement of the receipt of the laws to be sent to me whenever they come to hand.
