To his Excellency Joseph McMinn Governor of the state of Tennessee

Whereas we the undersigned are creditably informed that ^there is a vacancy in the appointment of solicitor general of the 18th district of this state, Beg leave to recommend to your con sideration, John C Collier Esquire as a young Gentleman of the law as a worthy man possessing integrity industry and ability - And we do not hesitate to say that should he secure that app ointment, that he will discharge the duties faithfully to his ? & with credit to himself-

we believe, that he is an object of great pity we feel, and as men would feel gratified to see the executive clemency extended to him; but that he is clearly guilty within the statute of negro stealing, and has been duly convicted we do not doubt, and therefore affirm the Judgements~.
