State of Tennessee Knox County
This day Jesse Terry of Roane County appeared before me Robt Lindsay a justice of said county of Knox and being duly sworn deposeth and saith That he has seen in the possession of a certain William Starne in Clark County Georgia a girl of colour which is the reputed daughter of a certain Daniel Scott of Roane County Tennessee who is a free man of colour, said girl Peggy has lived with said Daniel Scott and been always heretofore reputed free- that Deponent has seen in the possession of said Starne a Bill of sale for said Girl Peggy dated the 22 Novr 1817. Signed by a certain Edward Kindred and Mary Holt of Morgan County that he knows the Signature of Edward Kindred to be genuine and that of Edward Kindred of said Morgan County- That Deponent believes said Girl Peggy Scott was stolen from her parents in Roane County and carried to Georgia and sold as aforesaid by said Edward Kindred

Honoured Sir, I was [desired?] to have A Petition for a Mr William Starne A Gentleman who lives in Georgia and has Had the Misfortue to purchase A Girl of 6 A daughter of a Daniel Scott A [page damaged] His Christian name I dare say Misses McMin Can tell you all about the Family (I have just found out his Name have Inserted it) - this Kindred is a Most Notorious Villian in My Opinion, and Maryan Neal as she has bin [sic] called [damage] is as Great. A Villiness, as he is A Villian, I dont know [page damaged] far it Might be in your Power to Aid this Unfortunate [page damaged] in Bringing them to Justice, it Appears to me that [page damaged] Villians ought to be Brought To Justice, and have [page damaged] if it is your Power to Give ^Offer A Reward that you will [page damaged] More than Willing, to. Exert your Authority, in Bring [page damaged] Such Attrocious Offenders to Justice, I feel for my [page damaged] as though Every thing that Can be done With [?] Ought to be done, to put an End to Such Vilinous [page damaged] We have Given 2 Men that have Found the Girl one [page damaged] dollars (I Beleive) [sic] for their Trouble I Sincerely Hope [page damaged] it will be in your power to Offer Such Reward as [page damaged] Insure Success in Restraining the Culprits. this [page damaged] Handed me by Mr Starne. the unfortunate Purchaser [damage] is no [damage] but Edward Kindred and Mary have [damage]

This day William Starne of the county of Clark State of Georgia appeared before me Robt Lindsay an acting justice of the peace for said County of Knox and being duly sworn deposeth and saith, that on the 22 Novr 1817 a certain Edward Kindred and a certain Mary Holt came to Deponents House in Geor gia having in their possession a girl of colour called Peggy which they claimd as their property as a Slave which Deponent purchased as such and paid to them as a consideration the sum of three hundred and seventy five Dollars- That Deponent has since been informed and believes that said Girl Peggy was free and was kindmapped by the said Kindred and Mary Holt from her parents in Roane County Tennessee. That a suit has been since said sute by Thomas C. Childress and Jesse Terry instituted against this Deponent for the freedom of said girl Peggy and is are now prosecuting the same in the court of Clark County in State of Georgia That this Depont is informed and believes that said Edward Kindred and Mary Holt has since
