Dr Sir,

The death of Mr Alexander having left the office of secretary of state without an en= =cumbent, I take the liberty, altho' almost un= =known to you, to recommend to your consid= =eration for that post, Col. Brady. I have known him several years and my confidence in the rectitude of his character, as well as my knowledge of his tallents [sic] and capacity for the office induce me to address you.

With great respect and friendship.

Charles Cassedy

His Excely. Joseph McMinn. Governor of Tennessee. Nashville, 11th August 1818.

Sir,

Believing that the appointment of Col: Brady to the office of secretary of state for the state of Tennessee, will not only give general satisfaction, but call in some measure into notice the abilities which he certainly possesses, we the undersigned respectfully solicit for him that appointment, and trust that our wishes will accord with the opinion of Governor McMinn, as respects the propriety of the appointment.
