State of Tennessee Second Judicial Circuit Knox County

The Grand Jurors for the State of Tennessee, elected impannelled [sic] sworn and charged to enquire for the body of Knox County within the Second Judicial Circuit of the State of Tennessee, upon their Oath present and say that a certain De Townes Madox late of Sevier County Soldier, not having before his eyes the fear of God, but being ^moved and seduced by the instigation of the Devil, on the Night of the 21^st of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen, with force and arms (at to wit) at the Tavern of John Anthony in the town of Knoxville in the County of Knox aforesaid and within the Jurisdiction of this Court in and upon one Andrew Morris in the peace of God and the State then and there being, Feloniously, Wilfully and of his Malice aforethought did make an assault, and that he the said De Townes Madox with a [?] spear made of Iron and Steele of the value of one Dollar which he the said De Townes Madox in his right hand then and there had and held, the said Andrew Morris in and upon the right side of the body and near the navel of the belly of him the said Andrew Morris then and there feloniously wilfully and of his Malice aforethought did Strike, thrust and stab giving to him the said Andrew Morris then and there with the Spear aforesaid in and upon the right side of the body and near the navel of the belly of him the said Andrew Morris one mortal wound of the breadth of one quarter of an Inch, and of the depth of Six Inches of which said mortal wound the said Andrew Morris (at to wit) at the Tavern of John Anthony in the Town of Knoxville in the County of Knox aforesaid, and within the Jurisdiction of this County then and there instantly died, and so the Grand Jurors aforesaid upon their Oaths aforesaid do say that the said De Townes Ma-
