Newport, Tenn. Tennessee May the 29th. 1829.

Dear Sir,

The Office of Solictor [sic] for the 3d. solicitorial district is vacant by ^the recent death of John Wilkinson Esqr. It becomes your duty to make a temporary appointment - I understand that Colo. Gray Garrett is a candidate for the appointment. I would observe to you that I have known Colo. Garrett from his infan =cy, - His character stands fair as a man, his attainments as a lawyer, are quite respectable and such as fully quallify [sic] him for the discharge of the duties of the Office - and his appointment, would I believe give very general satisfaction to the people of the district - Though you have known him - you served with him in the Senate - If you Can Confer the appoin =tment upon him, the office will be well sustained

Respectfully Yours. Isaac Allen -

Genl Wm Hall -
