His Excellency Governor Carroll Nashville Middle Tennessee
Hamilton County Justice of Peace comd 26 May 1835
Dallas, Hamilton County Tennessee 5th May AD 1835.
Governor Carroll Sir At February Sessions 1835 of said county court, Samuel [Jison?] & Stephen Thurman Esquires Justices of the Peace for the Militia district and company including the county Town & seat of Justice; deposited their Official papers in my of-fice, as clerk of said County Court; and therewith resigned their commissions as justices of the peace for said county; and there not being any other justices of the peace for said company; & the nearest justice to the Town being 5 1/2 miles & the next nearest about 7 miles distant, the people of the Town & Company labour under great inconvenience in the transaction of their business requiring the Official duties of a justice or justices of the peace; I would therefore respectfully recom mend to your Excellency, for appointment to that office, the following named Gentlemen, namely Jared N. Poe Jesse Humble and Andrew G. H. Puckett believing them to be as suitable as any others or said company in point of ca pacity integrity and confidence of the Citizens. The resignation of said justices not having been noticed on the records of said court. I Asahel Rawlings clerk of the court of pleas and quarter sessions of said county can only certify and I do herby certify that the foregoing is a correct statement of facts as they transpired in relation to the resignation of said Justices of the Peace & that there are not any Justices of the peace nor resident in ^the militia district including the county Town & seat of Justice of said county.
Given under my hand at office the day and date first above written Asahel Rawlings clk
