Knoxville April 16, 1831.
Gov. Carroll,
Mr. McKinnie who will hand you this, will show you how far I have progressed with printing of the "Digest." The second volume is now in the hands of the binder. The first vol. will be in an equal state of forward= ness in a very short time, and I have all things in readi= nes, and will complete the job in the shortest practicable time. Under these circumstances I have thought that you would be willing to furnish me with a draft for a small additional amount towards the printing. By doing so you will greatly oblige me as well as Mr. McKinnie, to whom I am indebted the amount asked for, say three hundred and eighty two dollars.
To Mr. McKinnie I refer you for the local intelligence of the place, which it would afford me pleasure to communicate but from my inability from extreme pain and weakness to do more than barely write these few lines.
Very respectfully
