place in the Autumn of 1796. the head men of [Netly?] endeavored to persuade them to return but in vain. They proceeded to Tametly where the headmen took their provisions and ordered them to return with which order the head men supposed they complied as they took their course [windward?]: but it was only an evasion. They went round and cont-inued towards the settlements. When this was known [Chooeannestattee?] or the stallion sent a runner to the settlements to inform the people to beware. The intention of this communication is that the upper towns may be exculpated from the imputation of taking any part of in the enterprize [sic]." It is possible that some of that party did the mischeife [sic] on pidgion, and the Agent ^I believe thinks so.

I would advise you to keep out the two men, as before directed six or eight days longer and then discharge them if not otherways directed, for probably the party which they is mentioned to have sit out, is yet lurking in the mountains, and I also advise that deligent [sic] search to be made
